Warning! This course could be hazardous to your ego!

The second volume of Trungpa Rinpoche’s classic trilogy on the three yanas of Tibetan Buddhism, The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma, is a superb presentation of Mahayana Buddhism.  This third segment of our three courses on this volume focuses on the unusually powerful mind training system developed by Atisha in the twelfth century. This consists of seven steps, or “points,” which encapsulate the entire Bodhisattva path of wisdom and compassion. Each point includes a number of pithy slogans that communicate essential instructions relevant to that step of the path. The slogans it contains are designed to awaken the heart and cultivate love and kindness toward others. They are revolutionary in that practicing them fosters abandonment of personal territory in relating to others and in understanding the world as it is.

The fifty-nine provocative slogans presented here—each with a commentary by the Tibetan meditation master Chögyam Trungpa—have been used by Tibetan Buddhists for eight centuries to help meditation students remember and focus on important principles and practices of mind training. They emphasize meeting the ordinary situations of life with intelligence and compassion under all circumstances. Slogans include, "Don't be swayed by external circumstances," "Be grateful to everyone," and "Always maintain only a joyful mind."

Each class consists of group meditation practice followed by a presentation on the assigned reading and a group discussion. To participate, please obtain a copy of the text, TheProfound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma, Volume Two: The Bodhisattva Path of Wisdom and Compassion by Chogyam Trungpa. All classes are recorded for those who miss the class or want to review it again. Please contact us with any questions you have at westchestermeditationcenter@gmail.com.
