LOSAR - NEW YEAR’S CELEBRATION
Thursday, February 19, 2026
6 - 8:30 PM Himalaya Scarsdale
Registration is required by Feb 11th to reserve your place.
We invite you to join us for a special community celebration of the lunar New Year on Thursday, February 19, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM. This year we will gather at Himalaya Scarsdale for a delicious Tibetan dinner.
As a community we celebrate the new year, or Losar, in accordance with the Tibetan lunar calendar, in which celebrations traditionally begin two days before the day of Tibetan New Year and end on that day with prayers, ceremonies, dances, and family reunions. Each year is associated with an element and an animal, and this year's Losar will mark the beginning of the Year of the Fire Horse. The Fire Horse is considered a rare blend of the spirited Horse with the passionate Fire element, symbolizing dynamic change, transformation, and bold action. The energy is intense, passionate, courageous and transformative.
In the practice community founded by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Losar is also known as Shambhala Day. It is a time for us to express the wealth and richness of our spiritual and cultural heritage through feasting, conviviality, and elegance. Himalaya Scarsdale has planned a delicious menu of shared appetizers, a variety of entrees to choose from (including vegetarian options), and dessert, plus sparkling water, soft drinks, and mango lassi. A cash bar will also available. Your $40 registration fee will reserve your seat for the dinner, and offset a portion of the cost of the evening.
