Please join us this Fall for an in-depth exploration of the classic Buddhist text The Bodhicaryavatara (The Way of the Bodhisattva), a volume that has long been treasured as an indispensable guide to enlightened living. Written in the eighth century by the scholar and saint Shantideva, this comprehensive guide to the path of the bodhisattva has inspired many of the tradition’s greatest teachers.
The text presents the highest ideal of the Mahayana tradition, the life of a bodhisattva; beginning with the recognition of the great potential within each of us, and outlining the cultivation of confidence, joyfulness and compassion. Together we will closely follow Shantideva's verses, along with Pema Chodron's expert commentary, which makes accessible the richness of this guide to Bodhisattva path. Practical meditation exercises enrich the text.
The book for this course is Becoming Bodhisattvas: A Guidebook for Compassionate Action, but was also published as No Time to Lose: A Timely Guide to the Way of the Bodhisattva in earlier editions. It's the same book -- either version is acceptable for this course.
Participation in this advanced course requires completion of WMC's year-long Profound Treasury series, or equivalent study and practice. Questions about this requirement can be addressed to Gene Bobker by using this link gene@westchestermeditationcenter.org
